    Asalaam o alaikum Br. Yusha,

I have watched you on The Deen Show, and Youtube, and your story really inspired me. I am so impressed that you studied Hebrew and Greek to learn and understand the Bible. I was born Muslim, but was sadly reduced to one of those “cultural” Muslims who prayed, fasted, read a little Quran in Arabic, and thought God was only there to listen and answer my duas. When I finally started studying deen I was amazed at how many Muslims could and would memorize the whole Quran and not understand a word of it!! It still baffles me, and I currently work at an Islamic school with a hifdh program which helps kids memorize the Quran but in place of that, have no time for Islamic studies in their schedule. So anyway, I started studying Arabic with Br. Nouman Ali Khan’s (of Bayyinah institute — http://www.bayyinah.com) 10-day Arabic intensive courses two years ago, and also took an advanced level Arabic class — reccently I started memorizing a book called 80% of Quranic words and re-learning about conjugating Arabic verbs by looking over my class notes. And now I open up a Quran and STILL can’t fully understand it!! Out of 14 ayahs of Surah Baqarah there are only 5 root words I don’t know — but I still can’t fully understand the ayah! I don’t get it….why is it so hard to learn Arabic? Well, I guess my question is do you know Arabic? If so, how did you learn it? How long did it take and what resources did you use? Any help would be appreciated :)

And May Allah reward you for all your efforts in educating people about Islam and make your heart full of peace here and in the aakirah — ameen!
